Security Fundamentals

  1. Know your guidelines and policies.
Read them. Know them. Live them. We will be asking questions throughout the weekend. What’s the water policy at the gates? What do you do when an artist arrives at Gate 10?
  2. Know your map WELL.
No excuse not knowing where each gate is. NONE. Pit positions are NOT on the map. Report directly to Jon or Jacob for your assignment and responsibilities.
  3. Know the chain of command.
The only people with authority over you are your OneFest Supervisors. Take direction from them — and only them. If someone else gives you instructions, politely say, “Let me check with my supervisor.” If anyone disrespects you, let me know. When in doubt, ask a supervisor.
  4. Do not abuse your authority.
Don’t go where you don’t belong. NEVER go backstage unless working a shift. Don’t bend the rules. Use common sense. Protect the reputation of this team. Be patient. Be polite. Be calm. Be firm.
  5. Do not approach artists for photos or autographs.
Do not ask for photos — for yourself or anyone else. If you are helping capture event moments, do not take pictures while wearing your security shirt. And you do not pose. Never take pictures from the pit.
  6. Stay OUT of the Reserved Seating.
All the bleachers are reserved and paid for. We are never allowed to sit there.
  7. Be on time.
We are not your parents. Set an alarm. Wear a watch. Check your phone. Know your shift time. Don’t make me come looking for you.
  8. No pass, no access.
No one enters backstage or the grounds without proper credentials. Check everyone — every time — rain or shine, day or night. Never assume. This is one of our most important responsibilities. And look engaged while you’re doing it.
  9. Never leave your post unattended. Ever.
If you’re working a gate with two people, one can step away briefly. If you’re alone, call your supervisor before leaving. An unmanned gate is unacceptable.
  10. Take care of yourself.
Hydrate or you’re done. Drink plenty of fluids — not soda. Don’t try to be a hero. Listen to your body. Reapply sunscreen throughout the day. Shade is your friend.
  11. Be prepared after dark.
It gets dark. There are bugs. It gets cold. Bring your flashlight, your hoodie, and your bug spray. This should not surprise anyone.
  12. No whining.
It’s hot. You’re tired. We get it. Stay professional. If you have feedback or suggestions, use the real-time feedback link. That’s what it’s there for.
